Sebastiao Salgado - Blog Response

I think in another life I have a career like Sebastiao Salgado. He is a photojournalist who has traveled to around 120 countries for his work. I think that is a very interesting and exciting career to have. His work has a range of people and nature, which I like. I like photographers who don't stick with one subject and will have a wide range of work in their time. His work has a lot of high contrast and is very sharp. I'm not too sure I like it all the time. A photo that I don't love as much is the one below.

The paraná connecting the Rio Negro with the Cujuni River, state of Amazonas, Brazil, 2019
The photo is too sharp for me. I don't like the way the clouds look and I wish they weren't as dark. I wouldn't say it was a bad photo, just not really my taste. I don't dislike all the photos by Salgado, but ones similar to the one above are not my favorite.

EXHIBITION FEMMES DU MONDE

I like this one above. It has dark and light areas, a lot of shades of gray. I like that the women are darker so they stand out. I also think the sky is a good shade of gray; it's not too dark causing it to blend with the mountains, but it's not too light causing us to lose the clouds. I think the shadows of the women also adds a nice effect for the grayscale. Not as much a technical aspect, but I also like the the concept of the photo of how the women are descending down the side of the mountain.

I think overall the way Salgado photographs people is really interesting and conceptually different than what other photographers do. They seem very raw in showing the people's lives and different cultures. I really enjoy looking at them.

Genesis, 2014

I also like this one. Very cute and silly.
